Northwestern Wisconsin residents might soon notice a helicopter cruising over their neighborhoods. Xcel Energy plans to start a six-day aerial inspection its transmission lines on April 21. Helicopter crews will look for defects, loose fittings, and other potential problems that could cause outages.

The House Armed Services Committee, Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee requested that GAO continue to monitor the VXX presidential helicopter acquisition through a series of reviews. Subsequently, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 mandated that GAO continue to review and report on the program annually to the congressional defense committees.

Following a fatal crash off Shetland last August, a number of new regulations were proposed including a restriction on passenger numbers. Oil and gas UK said this would require an increase in flights, putting pressure on pilots and potentially delaying safety maintenance for offshore platforms. The British Airline Pilots Association have written to the Civil Aviation Authority asking to ensure all proposals were adopted.

Kaman Aerospace announces that the first New Zealand government NZ SH-2G(I) Super Seasprite helicopter began production flight testing at Kaman's Bloomfield, Connecticut facility. After production flight tests, this aircraft will be used for maintenance and aircrew training.

Engineers have been called out to a North Sea oil platform after a helicopter was forced to return during a crew change. The Sikorsky S92 was heading to Scatsta Airport on Shetland from Brent Delta when the crew reported "airframe vibration."
